The Basics

So far I have been here for two weeks.  So much has happened I hardly know where to begin. The Peace Corps has us on a "technology detox." so no phones' no internet access, no nothing. So this is why I am just getting around to writing my first blog post. I will try my hardest to update it once a week!!

If you are reading this then you probably know me. and if you know me then you probably know that as a general rule of thumb I avoid beans at all times, but guess what. Today I asked for seconds of beans!! They were "frijoles liquado" which are basically liquid or creamed beans. They were just purrieed beans and a little onion (cebolla), but it was yummy. We ate it with tortillas (of course what meal would be complete without tortillas?) and queso. After dinner my host mother just put the leftover queso in the pantry sooooo I don't think that I will eat any of that tomorrow.

I am living with a  very nice family in a very small rural town outside of Antigua. Here I have my own room with a bed, desk, and two drawers of a file cabinet for a dresser. It actually works surprisingly well. I feel lucky that I am in a house with a toilet (no toilet paper can be flushed down the toilet - it goes in the trash can), electricity, and a hot shower. There is no sink here. We use a Pila to wash our hands, the dishes, and some clothing (we have a washing machine.)
